Rick was born on July 1, 1949 to parents Lawrence and Lorraine Freier. He graduated from Shasta High School in 1967 and then Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a Masters in Electrical Engineering. Upon graduation Rick moved to Oxnard, CA where he worked for St. John’s Hospital as a Biomedical Engineer. He went on to work for Rohé Scientific as a Regional Service Manager servicing, at the time, cutting edge technology. He then moved to Seattle, WA where he worked for Squibb Medical Systems and later went on to form his own service company, Applied Engineering Services.
He moved back to Redding in 1986 where he met and married his wife Sheila and dedicated his life to teaching. He also served on the board of the Redding Y’s Men’s Club, a service organization for the YMCA.
Rick had a strong love for the Lord and his family. His grandchildren remember him helping them with their math homework, and his Dr. Doolittle ways with the animals. His children remember his infectious laugh and his ever present smile. They admire and respect the Godly example he set and how he used every circumstance as an opportunity to teach life lessons.
Rick had an adventurous spirit with a zest for life. He was a pilot, a teacher, a Ham Radio operator, loved the outdoors, camping with family and friends, scuba diving, sailing, skiing, hunting, and fishing. His ingenuity knew no bounds when he used his engineering background to convert a gas engine car to electric 20 years ago.
Rick is survived by his wife Sheila; children: Richard Freier, Matthew Freier, Matthew Fowler, Melanie Janeway and Katherine Fowler; Grandchildren: Madelynn Fowler, Chloé and Tenyson Fowler, Kennedy Janeway and Tia Freier
Rick will always be remembered for his wit and wisdom, loved and honored as the patriarch of the family, and for the Godly example he set.
The family would like to extend their sincerest appreciation for the love and support expressed from their friends.
Arrangements under the direction of Lawncrest Memorial Chapel, Redding, CA.
