Loving husband, father and hardworking family man, William Paul Gerth, 87, of Exeter Township, passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2022. Born in Reading, PA on March 28, 1935 to the late Grace (Groff) Gerth and William A. Gerth.
William made a career in construction management for most of his life, working at various companies including but not limited to: Burkey Construction, Mast Roofing & Construction, Inc., and in retirement, he did consulting. A few of the many construction projects he managed were Auman's Inc. Funeral Home, Penn State Health Exeter Outpatient Center, Deka and Penske.
William was the president of The Associate Construction, a member of the Daniel Boone ROD & Gun Club and a US Army veteran.
Truly an avid outdoorsman, William enjoyed game hunting in Potter County and in Canada, deep sea fishing, and target shooting. In addition, a talented musician, William played the cordovox with the swing band 'Men of Note', which performed at a range of dances and concerts. Additionally, he was an avid American car enthusiast, especially Chevy's and convertibles.
William's spirit will be carried on by his loving wife of 54 years, Fern (Berger) Gerth; his 2 sons William Gerth (Karen), Richard Gerth; his daughter Cynthia Scornavacchi; his stepson Dr. Blair Holl (Gabriel); and his stepdaughter Denise Ranish (Mike). He also leaves behind 5 grandchildren Megan, Ashley, Caitlyn, Molly and Rebecca; 4 step-grandchildren, George, Timothy, Susie and Loren and several great grandchildren to cherish his memory.
In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his son Michael P. Gerth, his stepson Loren Holl and grandson James Balloch.
Family & friends will gather on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Aumans Inc., 390 W. Neversink Rd., Reading, PA 19606. Funeral service will promptly commence in the funeral home at at 11:00 AM. Graveside committal will immediately follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in William's memory may be made to The Freedom Center for Animal Life Saving, 1801 N. 11th St., Reading, PA 19604; and/or St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
