Ronald Henry Dague, Sr., 95, previously of Sinking Spring (Colonial Hills), PA, and more recently of East Petersburg, PA, went home to be with Jesus peacefully and surrounded by love on May 20, 2023.
Born August 17, 1927, in Reading, PA, Ronald was the son of the late Flora (Jackson) and Harry Franklin Dague. He was the loving husband of Betty J. Dague, with whom he shared more than 71 years of marriage before her passing in March 2021.
When Ronald was a student at Mt. Penn high school, he was honored to run in the Penn Relays in Philadelphia. After graduating high school, he served in the United States Army during World War II. After serving his country, Ron, an articulate craftsman and carpenter, worked as a residential and commercial builder in Reading before transitioning to Quaker Maid Kitchens, where he worked as a cabinet maker until his retirement.
Ron had an affinity for baseball and, in his younger years, played in a community league. He enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with his family. Ron hiked, ran, fished, camped, and rode bikes (and the occasional roller coaster at HersheyPark) with his children and grandchildren well into his late 70s and early 80s.
Ron had a profound faith in Jesus Christ and shared his love for Christ with his family. He served as a Deacon at the Wyomissing U.C.C., Gouglersville, PA, and in his later years, attended Calvary Church, Lancaster, PA, with his wife, daughter, and granddaughters. He also studied at the Reading Bible Institute and received his Advanced Teachers Certificate from the Evangelical Teacher Training Association in 1979.
Ron is survived by a son, Ronald H. Dague Jr. (Kerry Rehkamp); a daughter, Doreen S. Frill (Steve Lewis); and four grandchildren: Ronald H. III, husband of Elizabeth Dague, Brian L., husband of Tracy Dague, Melissa L. (Frill), wife of Michael Esterly, and Amanda B. Frill. Also surviving are five great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Ron was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy Lee Dague, and brother Harold Dague.
A funeral service, with Stan Maughan officiating, will begin at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 27, 2023, at Auman's Inc. Funeral Home, 390 W. Neversink Rd., Reading, PA 19606. A graveside committal with full military honors will immediately follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park.
