He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Judith A. (Schell) Hafer.
Jim was born in Reading on March 13, 1936, a son of the late Henry L. and Dorothy (Reifsnyder) Hafer. He attended Kulp United Methodist Church and was a Navy veteran serving during the Suez Canal Crisis.
Jim was employed by Richard L. Hafer as a master electrician for 15 years, then Easco/Barco in electrical maintenance , and later Sweet Streets in electrical maintenance. He enjoyed J & J Woodcraft and Judy's Ceramics, loved to play with his grandchildren, was a member of the Roaring Creek and Catawissa Valley Historical Society, RCV Grange in Numidia and helped on the preservation of Fisherdale One Room Schoolhouse. He enjoyed fishing and was a great help to all.
Jim is also survived by his daughter, Deborah A., and her husband, Bernard Blenk II, of Stillwater, Pa.; his son Dennis J. Sr., and his wife, Judith Hafer, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; 6 grandchildren: Jason A. Schrader, Christopher L. Schrader, Steven M. Hafer, Dennis J. Hafer Jr., Allyssa F. Pagliaro, Lindsay R. Hafer; 6 great-grandchildren: Alic, Zachery, Lorenzo, Stevie, Emma and Zakary. Also surviving are his siblings: Richard L. Hafer, Morris Hafer, Norman Hafer and Joyce Johnson.
Jim was predeceased by 4 of his siblings.
Services will be Monday, December 4, 2017, at 11 a.m. in Auman's Inc. Funeral Home, 390 W. Neversink Rd., Reading. Burial to follow with military honors in Forest Hills Memorial Park. A viewing will be Monday 10-11 a.m. in the funeral home.
