She was born January 23, 1925 in Nicholas County, WV, to Herbert and Jenny (Stafford) Smith and living her entire life until she and her husband, James, moved to Ravenna five years ago to be close to their family due to medical conditions.
Ruth was an avid gardener and loved to can her fruits and vegetables. She always did a lot of sewing and quilting and took much pleasure in making the hot air balloon quilts for many years for the Ravenna Balloon A-Fair. She also was very active in a little church, Calvin Chapel, back in WV that her father and brothers had built in the 1940's. Helping people in need was always very important to her.
She is survived by her husband, James, to whom she has been married for 67 years. She is also survived by her daughter, Carolyn (Virgil) Reagan, granddaughter, Angelia Rose, great-grandchildren: Lee and Nicole Rose, and serval nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and four brothers: Roy, Coy, Clarence, and Odas Smith.
A private family service will be held at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, Ravenna, with burial immediately following at Palmyra West Cemetery.
