Russell William Girton

He was born May 8, 1927, in Ravenna, Ohio, to parents Preston David and Elizabeth (Lohr) Girton. Russ lived in Rootstown for most of his life. He was the owner of Girton’s Service, a gas station and grocery store located in Rootstown.

Russ enjoyed woodworking, golfing, and fishing, going on several fishing trips to Canada. He also took pride in his rose gardens. Russ was a member of the Rootstown First Congregational Church and served as a township trustee for 12 years.

Russell is survived by his children: Thomas (Elizabeth) Girton, Kathryn (Joseph) Rooks, and David (Renee) Girton, his 12 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, as well as his brother Leslie Girton.

Russ was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty Jane (Church) Girton, his daughter Susan (Girton) Reardon, and his brothers Preston and Wallace Girton.

His wishes for cremation are being honored. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Homeland Cemetery in Rootstown. A time of fellowship and celebration of life will follow at VFW Post 1055, 6000 New Milford Rd, Ravenna, OH 44266.
