He was born January 31, 1936, in Beaverdale, Pennsylvania, to parents Simeon and Jessie (Baughmer) Hughes. He graduated from Beaverdale High School, and then proudly served in the US Army.
John was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather. He retired from the GE Warehouse in Ravenna in 1994. John loved the outdoors. He was an avid golfer, hunter, and fisherman. He was also a dedicated member of New Testament Baptist Church.
John is survived by his beloved wife Yvonne (Wiseman) Hughes, who he married August 3, 1959. He is also survived by his sons John R. Hughes and David A. Hughes, his granddaughters Amanda Etter and Misty Hughes, and his great-grandchildren Alaina Etter and Jameson Etter, as well as his siblings: James (Anna Jean) Hughes, Claudia Cerne, and Sarah Rosman.
John was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter-in-law Joyce Hughes, and his siblings: Simeon, Thomas, Richard, Elizabeth, Helen, Mary, Naomi, and Susie.
Friends and family will be received Wednesday, October 23, 2024, from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM at the New Testament Baptist Church with funeral services officiated by Pastor Bob Burgess at 12:00 PM. Interment will follow with military honors at Grandview Memorial Park.
