Frank Roland Dudek, 87, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 13, 2011, surrounded by his family. Born August 21, 1924 to Emma and George Dudek, he was raised on the family farm along Route 18 in Edinburg. He graduated from Edinburg High School in 1943, a star basketball and track athlete.
He delivered fuel oil for the Ravenna Oil Company for 34 years, servicing many of the rural routes of Portage County. Frank retired from ODOT.
In 1948 Frank met his beloved wife, Helen Kainrad, while dancing at the East Market Gardens in Akron. Married on October 22, 1949, at Immaculate Conception Church, they were together for nearly 62 years. Frank cherished his time spent with family, siblings, and relatives. Frank and Helen enjoyed dancing, traveling, and most recently bingo and casino trips. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish and previously of Young at Heart.
He will be sadly missed by his devoted wife Helen, daughters Emmy Haiflich and Kathy (David) Schley, sons Frank (Sandra) Dudek, Ray, Myron, Joe and Nick Dudek and former son-in- law Marc Haiflich. Also, Mr. Dudek leaves behind his grandchildren Melissa (Derick) Trautman, Zac (Jill) Haiflich, Matthew (Beryl) Dudek, Joshua and Andrew Dudek, and Paul and Nick Schley. He was blessed with 6 adorable great-grandchildren, Shane and Connor Trautman, Sophia and Wyatt Haiflich, and twins Adella and Steena Dudek, lifelong friend Ed (Martha) Baniecki and over 70 nieces and nephews.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Anne Copac, Mary Smith, Helen Radzimski, Frances Nienaltowski and brothers George, John, Joseph and Louis Dudek.
Mr. Dudek enjoyed fishing, bowling, hunting, trapping and long walks in the woods. His heart never left the farm and he was happiest working in his yard, tending his gardens, and feeding his birds. He will also be missed by his very special companion, "Kitty Whiskers", a stray kitten he adopted three years ago.
Cremation has taken place. Friends will be received Saturday, October 22, 2011, from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna.
