Dorothy J. Caldwell

Born October 21, 1935 to Ernest and Bina Carlile – Randolph Township, Ohio.

Dorothy has lived in Shalersville Township since 1957 and retired after 32 ¼ years as Township Fiscal Officer for Shalersville Township. Prior to that, she had been employed as a bookkeeper, working many years at Vale Edge in Ravenna.

Dorothy grew up in Randolph Township and moved to Shalersville Township when she married Merritt (deceased). They were married for 43 years. They did not have children but have many nieces and nephews. Together they enjoyed spoiling all of them.

Preceded in death is her husband Merritt, parents, Ernest and Bina and brother Mahlon.

Survivors include her sister Margaret Harwell (Dave), sister-in-law Jo Ann Caldwell (Dale) nieces and nephews Mary Jo Butto (Gary), Surfside, SC, A. Dale Caldwell, John Caldwell, Tom Caldwell (Tami), Nancy Caldwell-Huffman (Wayne), all local and Lori Williams, Dublin, OH. John Lee Harwell (Lori), Tami McElderry, Ben Harwell (Jeanna) and Penny Reynolds (David) and also great-greats all from Florida.

Dorothy spent many hours crocheting afghans for those in need. Also, made special afghans upon requests. She was an avid bowler, served on the Ravenna Balloon A-Fair Board of Trustees and also served as President. Many hours were spent on projects at Portage Faith United Methodist Church where she had been a member for 50 plus years. She was a member of Hope Circle. The highlight of the summer was to get on the “John Deere” green and yellow and mow approximately three acres each week.

Graveside service, officiated by Rev. Bill Graham, will be held at 10am on Friday, November 29, 2024 at Hillside cemetery in Shalersville. A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at 11am on Saturday, December 14th at the Portage Faith United Methodist Church, 9922 St. Rt. 44, Mantua, Ohio 44255. Luncheon to follow.
