Christopher “Chris” Mark Corl, age 73, of Randolph, Ohio, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2024, surrounded by his loving family after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on July 26, 1951, in Akron, Chris graduated from Waterloo High School in 1969 and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Kent State University.
Chris dedicated his career to serving as a park ranger for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources at West Branch State Park, where he retired after 26 years of service. As a state park ranger, he received the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Valor Award for his heroic action taken when assisting in rescuing 12 occupants from frigid waters in April of 1983. Chris was a member of the Italian American Club and Fraternal Order of Police. His love for the outdoors was reflected in his many hobbies, which included fishing, hunting, hiking, and traveling. He also enjoyed playing darts with friends, working on family projects, cooking, and baking.
Chris is survived by his daughter, Alicia Turner (Randy); his son, Nathaniel Corl (Julia); and his cherished grandchildren, Grant, Ryan, Aiden, and Annabelle. He is also survived by his siblings, Carolyn Nicholas, Frank Corl (Renee), and Elaine Wolfenberger (Ed); and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Edith Corl, his brother-in-law, Gary Nicholas, and his nephew, David Devine.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, November 8, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 East Main Street, Ravenna, Ohio 44266. A private burial will take place on Saturday.
