Charlotte A Harper

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Charlotte Harper, devoted wife, beloved mother of three daughters, grandmother to nine, great grandmother to six, and dedicated secretary at Hiram College.

Charlotte passed away peacefully on November 7, 2024 at the age of 77 years. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and laughter that will continue to inspire all who knew her. Born on April 21, 1947 in Sissonville, West Virginia, Charlotte was known for her unwavering dedication to her family, her work, and her community. From an early age, she demonstrated a deep compassion for others, and throughout her life, she lived with a spirit of service and generosity. Her love for her family was boundless, and she poured her heart and soul into spending time with her own mother and brothers and raising her three daughters with her lifelong love, Tom.

Charlotte’s nurturing and fun-loving presence will forever be cherished by Pam, Tracy, and Kim. As a wife, Charlotte was the embodiment of loyalty, love, and partnership. She shared a long and happy marriage with her husband, Thomas Harper, with whom she spent 58 years building a life together. Their bond was rooted in respect, understanding, laughter and a deep, enduring affection that began in their teens. Charlotte’s professional life was equally remarkable. For many years, she worked as a secretary and assistant; first at Portage Faith United Methodist Church in Mantua and later at Hiram College, where her meticulous work ethic and warm, friendly demeanor made her an integral part of the college community. Colleagues and students alike admired Charlotte for her reliability, her kindness, and her ability to make everyone feel valued and cared for.

Her 15-year contribution to the college and to everyone who crossed her path was immeasurable. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Hiram College, as well. Charlotte was known for her selflessness, always ready to lend a helping hand, offer a word of encouragement, or share a thoughtful gesture. Whether she was organizing family gatherings, offering support to friends, or making sure the needs of others were met, Charlotte's caring nature never wavered. She found joy in the simple acts of service that made the world around her a better place.

In addition to her devotion to family and work, Charlotte had a passion for gardening and reading, and she took great joy in sharing these interests with those she loved. Her home was a warm and safe place where everyone who entered felt welcome.

Charlotte leaves behind her beloved husband, Thomas, her three daughters, Pamela Townsend (Derek), Tracy Burton (John Mark), Kimberly Schwab (Kiev), her grandchildren Sam, Bradley (Alexandra), Adam, Jacob, Jared, David, Stacy (David), Cory, and Kameron, her great grandchildren, Jonah, Mia, Levi, August, Tristan, and Delilah, dear brother Gregory Hunter (Darlina) of Kings Bay, GA. And niece Heather Crampton (Alicia), great nephews Pax, Cameron, Allen and a circle of family, friends, and colleagues who will forever remember her kindness, her generosity, and the love she gave so freely.

She was preceded in death by her mother Edith Hunter, father Charles Hunter and brothers Bob, Melvin, and Steven.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Alzheimer’s Foundation in Charlotte’s memory.

Charlotte’s love, light, and spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. She was truly one of a kind, and she will be deeply missed. Rest in peace, Charlotte. You were a beautiful soul, and you will always be loved.
