Carolyn (Whittlesey) Plaskonka

Born October 16, 1934 in Ravenna, Ohio to Alice Maxine (Chain) and Herbert C. Belding.

Carolyn graduated from Randolph High School and attended Hammel Actual Business College. She worked as clerical support and office worker at Wingfoot Lake in Suffield, Pyramid Rubber in Ravenna and eventually retired from Robinson Memorial Hospital to become a homemaker and spend time with her family and enjoy travelling.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Donald F. Whittlesey and spouse Walter David Plaskonka. She is also preceded in death by her dear cousin Joanne Sabin McMillen and closest friend Barb Warner along with many loving relatives and friends she had locally and throughout the U.S.

She is survived by her sons Bryan (Dana Colecchi) Whittlesey and Scott (Diane Trescott) Whittlesey. Granddaughters Macie Whittlesey and Michelle Whittlesey. Carolyn also is also survived by three step-daughters, numerous step grand and step-great grandchildren.

Along with spending time with her family and friends, Carolyn enjoyed camping and travelling. After Donald passed away unexpectedly, Carolyn was faced with raising two teenage boys as a single mother. She eventually went on to meet Walter and spent many years with him travelling the US and camping each weekend at Friendship Acres where they became friends with many other campers.

Carolyn enjoyed cooking and had a passion for baking cookies and her famous buckeyes for her sons, grandchildren, family and friends to enjoy. She was proud of her upbringing in Randolph and spoke highly of the friends she met along the way. She enjoyed attending the Atwater/Randolph Alumni Banquets and Atwater Firette reunions over the years to reminisce with her former classmates and firettes. Eventually her health began to decline and she was no longer able to do the things she once enjoyed. During her time at Kentridge, she would continue to reminisce with her sons, daughter in law, and granddaughter about her younger years in Randolph and Atwater.

She was a previous member of Atwater Congregational and Atwater Methodist Churches, and a current member of the Kent United Methodist Church.

The family would like to thank the staff of Kentridge Senior Living, Traditions Hospice, and the Western Reserve Medical Group who, together, made Carolyn’s final years at Kentridge engaging and enjoyable.

Family will receive visitors at Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna on Wednesday July 6, 2022; 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., where funeral services will be officiated by Reverend Dr. David Palmer and Reverend Douglas Denton on Thursday at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Atwater Cemetery.
