Carl Warren Cantley

Born in Rock Creek West Virginia. He was the 7th out of 12 children born to parents Guy Cantley and Stella (Richmond) Cantley. He graduated from Marsh Fork High School in 1959. After High school, he enlisted in the Army and served for 3 years. He loved to tell stories about the tanks that he drove and brag about how he was the best sharpshooter in his unit. He was honorably discharged in 1964.

After the Army and spending some time in Rockford, Illinois working at Chrysler, he came to Ohio and started off working in the metal and aluminum industry, initially with the Alcoa Metal company. He continued to work in the metal and aluminum industry, eventually retiring as a Production Supervisor from Integris Metals in 2005.

He met Charlotte (Pirl) Cantley on April 10th, 1978, and later that same year they married on August 101h, 1978. Together they had 3 daughters. Tracy (Jon) Miller, Pearl Sharp and Stella (James) Noussias. They lived many places together; Sharon Center, Rootstown and eventually built their retirement home in 1997 in Randolph.

In 1993, he and Charlotte decided to open their home and become foster care parents. Over the years they came to foster over 100 children in need. They started out as therapeutic foster parents to teenagers and then gradually became focused on fostering infants and young children. They eventually became affectionately called Grandpa Warren and Grandma Charlie.

He is also the adored Grandpa or “Papa” Warren to 9 grandchildren. Ashley, Elizabeth, and Erin ‘Adkins, Amanda Sharp and Samantha, Andrew, Alexander, Wesley and Lydia Noussias.

Carl “Warren” enjoyed the simple things in life. He was incredibly patient and kind. He never balked at helping someone in need. He enjoyed making sure others around him were taken care of. He found great pride in taking care of his home and yard. He was always tinkering around in the garage or building something. His favorite past time was taking care of his lawn. He loved his John Deere riding lawn mower. When he wasn’t on his tractor or tinkering in the garage, he would be sitting on the swing on the back porch holding a grandbaby or dog.

Friends and Family are invited to pay their respects at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main Street, Ravenna, on Thursday, May 30th, visitation from 12pm-1 with the funeral service at 1:00pm. Inurnment at Hillside Cemetery in Randolph with full military honors will immediately follow the service.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Coleman Adult Day Center in Ravenna, who allowed Carl to continue to remain socially active and engaged. A gracious thank you also to Crossroads Hospice, especially his nurse Ashley and his aide Jacob. These two companies both provided Carl with wonderful care, and it is so very appreciated. We hope that you remember his welcoming smile and willingness to give a handshake or a hug to anyone he met.
