Barbara Brown Kern, age 83, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2015. She was a longtime resident at the Gardens of Western Reserve in Streetsboro Ohio, where she was surrounded by many special and loving caregivers.
She was born July 26, 1932 to Ernest F. Brown and Marion Aschenbach Brown in Wilmington, Delaware. She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband of 52 years, Paul E. Kern, Jr.
Barbara is survived by her three children, Kathleen Kern of Laguna, California, Carolyn (Greg) Luvison of Broadview Heights, Ohio and Peter (Cynthia) Kern of Twinsburg, Ohio. She was blessed with three wonderful grandchildren, Bryan, Emily and Christopher.
Barbara graduated from the University of Delaware with a Bachelor's degree in Education. She earned her Master's degree in Education at John Carroll University. She was an educator for more than 25 years with the Cleveland Heights-University Heights School District, where she taught reading at Coventry Elementary School.
She was an active member of Fairmount Presbyterian Church in Cleveland Heights, Ohio for many years. Upon retirement, she continued her service in Sarasota, Florida at Church of the Palms as a volunteer and moderator and was honored to be named "Presbyterian Woman of the Year" by her church.
