Thomas Joseph Gacioch, 73, of Raleigh, NC; North Myrtle Beach, SC and Binghamton, NY passed away on March 7, 2016. He was born in Binghamton, NY on May 2, 1942 and graduated from Broome Community Technical College with a degree in Computer Science. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley J. and Mary Gacioch and his son, Jon J. Gacioch.
Tom is survived by his daughter, Krystin G. Knox and son-in-law Charles R. Knox, Jr. (Rob), granddaughter Mary Margaret McGuire (Maggie) and grandson Ryan Alexander Knox, all of Raleigh, NC, his brother, James C. Gacioch and wife, Margaret Q. Gacioch (Peggy) of Barrington, RI, his sister, Marie G. Yenchak of Maine, NY, nephews David Q. Gacioch and wife Anne Geiger of Chestnut Hill, MA, Adrian J. Yenchak and wife Sheena Yenchak of West New York, NJ, and Brian Q. Gacioch and wife Carey Gacioch of Roslindale, MA, and niece Lauren E. Peone of Rochester, NY. Tom also has a large family of aunts, uncles and cousins. The last four years of his life were spent with a special lady, Nell A. Kinlaw, of North Myrtle Beach.
Tom graduated from Johnson City High School and began his Air Force service in Myrtle Beach, SC where his love of the south and the beach was established. He returned to Binghamton to finish college and he began working at Singer Link and then SUNY Binghamton, where he retired after 32 years. Tom loved his work, golf and cars. Tom retired to North Myrtle Beach in 1999 where he enjoyed golfing with his friends and working at Beachwood Golf Course.
Tom loved to give his time to local organizations including the Endwell Rotary Club and the Retired Veterans Association.
“Pipa,” as his grandchildren referred to him, was a loving father, grandfather, brother and son. He loved ice cream and candy bars, which delighted his grandchildren on each and every visit.
The family wished to express their gratitude to those who cared for him over these last few months; the staff of Morningside Assisted Living of Raleigh, ComforCare Home Care, and Homewatch Caregivers of the Triangle.
We will celebrate Tom’s life in Raleigh, NC on Wednesday, April 6 at St. Raphael Catholic Church at 11 am in the Mary Chapel. In addition, a celebration in Myrtle Beach, SC on Thursday, April 7 at Beachwood Golf Club at 5 pm. He will be interred alongside his parents, Stanley and Mary Gacioch at the Calvary Cemetery in Johnson City, NY on Saturday, April 23 at 10:30 am.
