Ruth spent her early years in central Indiana, first on the family farm near Russiaville, and later in Kokomo, where she attended high school and business school and worked as a secretary. In 1940 she married W.E. “Gene” Yeomans, a civil engineer whose work took them to numerous cities in this country and also to Edmonton, Alberta. Their final move, in 1973, was to Raleigh. Gene retired three years later, and they enjoyed their time together until his death in 1979.
In the years that followed, Ruth traveled at every opportunity. She was also an active member of Millbrook United Methodist Church as long as her health permitted.
She will be remembered for her kindness and concern for others; her positive attitude; her sense of humor; her sweet, gentle presence; and, most of all, her radiant smile.
Ruth was predeceased by her brother, Kenneth W. Hughes, and her nephew Kenneth R. Hughes, both of Grapevine, Texas. She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Mudge, and son-in-law, Harley Mudge; Tripp Mudge, wife Joanna, and daughter Anna Charles; Turner Mudge; and Melanie Mudge. She is also survived by cousins Ralph Hughes of Louisville, Kentucky, and Rex Hughes of Naples, Florida.
A memorial service celebrating Ruth’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 23, 2019, at Millbrook United Methodist Church, 1712 E. Millbrook Rd., Raleigh.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ruth’s memory may be made to Millbrook UMC or to the Salvation Army.
