Robert James Clements

Bob was born on February 25, 1928 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Austin Bailey Clements and Dorothy LaVasseur Clements. Bob grew up in Petersburg, Virginia. He enjoyed wonderful vacations at Virginia Beach with his family. His first dog was Blackie and his last dog was Lee. He always said there was no words to express the affection between an owner and his dog. He was married to the love of his life, Katherine “Kitty” Graham Clements for 57 years until her death on January 29, 2009. Both of them carried half of a $2 bill to be used if it was the last $2 to their name. They never needed the $2 bill.

Bob served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in the Philippines. He was a sales representative for R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., Gibson Greeting Card Company and Celebrity, Inc. In 1976 he started his own business by franchising a Maaco Auto Painting and Repair Center in Alexandria, Virginia until he retired in 1988 and moved to Raleigh. He won awards for being the top Maaco and Auto Painting in the U.S.

He loved spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy C. Smith and brother, Austin B. Clements, Jr. He is survived by his son, Robert J. Clements, Jr. of Ocala, Florida and his granddaughter, Katherine and her husband, Patrick Boatwright and their son, James Boatwright. He is also survived by his son, J. Graham Clements and his wife, Barbara, of Raleigh, North Carolina and his grandson, J. Graham Clements, Jr, D.C. and his wife Nicole Clements, and his grandson Bryant A. Clements, his wife Victoria Clements, DPT and their son Wyatt L. Clements.

A graveside service for Robert was held Thursday, September 1, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, VA 23803, officiating was Rev. Harry Bowman.
