Peggy Joyce Brown Collins, 87, passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Rex Hospital, Raleigh, NC. She was preceded in death by Robert Clarence Collins, her beloved husband of 32 years. Peggy was born on January 15, 1931 in Martin County, NC. She graduated from Scotland Neck High School in 1949. She moved to Raleigh in 1949 and completed a business program at Hardbarger Business College.
Peggy began her banking career as a bank teller in 1960 with North Carolina National Bank, now known as Bank of America. She was promoted to bank manager and managed several bank branches in Raleigh. Her proudest accomplishment was being the first of a few women promoted to assistant vice-president in 1975. She retired from the bank in 1986.
In addition to being an astute businesswoman, Peggy was creative. Her hobbies included home decoration and flower arrangement. Peggy was an active member in her community. She was a previous member of the Junior League of Raleigh and Quota International of the Triangle.
Peggy had an unwavering faith in the Lord. Her life was guided by her Christian beliefs. She joined St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, Raleigh, NC in 1971. She was active on many committees and served as Altar Guild. She joined Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Raleigh, NC in 2005.
She is survived by her daughter, Pamela C. Stevens and brother, William R. Brown. She was affectionally known as Aunt JoJo by her nieces Cindy Sinha and Ann Long; great-nieces Kelly Brown and Sarah Long; nephews, Tony Brown and Bob Long and great-nephew Evan Long.
A Memorial Service for Peggy will be held at 2 pm, on Friday, January 4, at Holy Trinity Anglican Church in the chapel, 549 North Blount Street, Raleigh, NC 27604.
