Pearl Carlyle Adams, 86, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2011. She was born in Gastonia, NC on July 17, 1924, but moved to Franklin Co. then to Raleigh, during WW II; where she was a waitress, and married Patrick M. Adams (Sept. 13, 1946). Pearl graduated from Carolina Beauty College in 1952, and had her own beauty shop, in Fuquay-Varina. Later she moved to Wilmington where she graduated from Cape Fear Tech as a nurse technician in 1974. Upon moving back to Raleigh, she attended Wake Tech in 1980 and earned her high school diploma at age 55. She worked and retired from Data General as a QC inspector in 1987. Retirement wasn’t for her, so she worked in the medical field with Upjohn private duty and Wake Medical Center on 2C, as a Patient Care Assistant in their pilot project for senior citizens.
After retiring again at age 75, she enjoyed her birds, flowers, her dear friends, and her church family at Longview Baptist Church. She enjoyed watching UNC Television where she “traveled” and learned. She also loved ‘her programs’, reading, flower arranging, crafts, sitting on her deck and bird watching. She will be missed by all who met and loved her. She always had a laugh and a smile ready no matter what she was going thru.
Donations can be made in her memory to Hospice of Wake County and UNC Television.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Patricia Marie Fowler and her husband Jim, and Maria Adams Hebert and her husband Paul; her grandchildren, Adam, Jason, and Brande; her great grandchildren Dakota and Lily; and her brothers and sisters, Earl and Clinton Carlyle, Faye Belvin and Eunice Wagner. Pearl was preceded in death by her 5 sons, Daniel, Patrick Jr., Raymond, Paul and Nicholas Adams; her parents, Rufus and Crettie Carlyle; her siblings Robert, Blanche, Curtis and Ray.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday April 7, at Longview Baptist Church, 2308 New Hope Rd., Raleigh. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 – 2:00 pm. Interment to follow at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Zebulon, NC.
