Michael was born November 11, 1928 in New York City to parents Nicholas and Angelina DeSantis. He served in the Army from 1967 to 1973 as a Chaplain. While in the Army, Michael received numerous awards including the National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Bronze Star Medal.
Michael is survived by his partner of 40 years, John Harvey; sister Pat Flynn and husband Peter of Raleigh, NC. He is predeceased by his parents.
The visitation will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2013 from 2pm to 4pm at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh, NC.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to the Hospice of Wake County.
