Margaret Bain Cutliff Truslow

Margaret Bain Cutliff Truslow passed away peacefully Sunday, May 3, 2015 almost reaching her 93rd birthday next month. She was born in Greensboro, NC on June 23, 1922 and moved with her family to Raleigh at age two. The daughter of John Milton Cutliff and Ruth Hargrave Cutliff, she was predeceased by her sister Mary Emily Gore and her husband Frank Oliver Truslow.

She is survived by her son John D. Truslow of Boston, and her daughter Tate T. Garrison of Raleigh; her only grandchild Stephanie Garrison Cole and her husband Bryant Cole, and her triplet great-grandchildren Finn, Auden and Chloe Cole.

She graduated from Meredith College where she majored in French with a minor in Mathematics. She was such a delightful and unique character who was always fun to be around. She had great taste in clothes and enjoyed being impeccably dressed down to her 9AAAA shoes! She loved to play golf, knit and sew. Her true talent was in Bridge where her excellent memory and love of math had her win high score more often than not at her weekly bridge game. She and her friends were in the same bridge group for some fifty plus years. Her vibrant energy kept her active until a stroke took away her ability to walk six years ago. Even though she was confined to the bed in her final years with some dementia her unique and entertaining personality still shone through. Her nephews Milton, Cutliff and David Gore and niece Ruth Williams of Raleigh/Spokane, Washington/Fuquay Varina blessed her greatly through their visits filled with singing and guitar playing. Even though her memory was challenged in many ways, she loved to sing along and remembered all the words to her favorite songs.

She was known for her stories that she would tell. She grew up visiting her grandparents in Chatham, VA and Albany, GA which really helped shape her personality.

In Raleigh she grew up in Cameron Park and remembered it as a golden age for kids to grow up even though they all had to endure the Great Depression. The older children looked after the younger ones without parents hovering around. Kids were able to be kids and there was a goat that would pull children around in a red wagon. The only damper was once a year all the children had to play inside for a week while the gypsies camped in the woods where Cameron Village shopping center would one day be built.

She was one of a kind and we will miss her greatly. We take comfort in knowing she is with the Lord now and can walk and run again.

A visitation will be held Thursday, May 7, from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 Saint Mary's St., Raleigh.

The funeral service will be held Friday, May 8, at 11:00 am at Hayes Barton Baptist Church, 1800 Glenwood Ave. Burial will follow at Historic Oakwood Cemetery.
