Margaret Porter Toburen, 69, passed away on January 16, 2021 after a prolonged illness. Born on October 26, 1951 in Tryon, NC; she was the daughter of Leonard Charles Porter and Margaret Nungesser Porter.
She graduated from Tyron High School and Guilford College in Greensboro with a Bachelor’s Degree in English. She met her future husband William “Bill” Toburen on a blind date while in college and they married shortly after her graduation in 1974. She worked for CETA Jobs Program as a Compliance Officer and then entered into her years of service with the Raleigh Fire Department, retiring as a Staff Analyst.
Margaret was a member of St. Helena Anglican Church in Beaufort, SC before joining Our Savior Lutheran Church in Raleigh. She enjoyed being with her family, taking walks and reading a good book. Margaret truly appreciated the simple joys of each day.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband and partner in life for 46 years: Bill Toburen; by her sister: Doris Jones and husband Dr. Charles Jones, of Alpharetta, GA and their two daughters, with their families. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents and by a brother: Leo Porter, of Midland, TX.
A Memorial Services will be held Saturday, January 23, 2021 at 10:00 am at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Raleigh.
