Louise Blackwell Ledbetter, born Louise Wimberley Blackwell in April of 1944, was the daughter of the late Rosser Ira Blackwell and Ellen Wilkinson Blackwell and was the younger sister of the late William E. Blackwell and John W. Blackwell. She departed this earthly life on Monday, December 5, 2022 at the age of 78.
She is survived by her nephews and niece; Scott F. Sternberg of Greenwich, Conn., John W. Blackwell Jr. of Raleigh, NC., David O. Blackwell of Raleigh, NC., Tracy E. Sternberg of Wake Forest, NC. and many other friends and family.
In addition to being a proud member of the Needham B. Broughton High School class of 1962, she was also a graduate of Stratford Junior College and Greensboro College. She went on to teach at Vena Wilburn Elementary School and later at Frances Lacy Elementary School. After teaching she worked in retail at Cameron Clothing where she was loved by her coworkers and customers alike.
While caring for her mother at Springmoor Retirement Community she met the love of her life, Dr. Charles Burkhead Ledbetter, and the two were married shortly thereafter. She will soon be reunited with her beloved Burke when she is laid to rest beside him at Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh NC.
Faithful daughter, loving sister, caring aunt and devoted friend. She was loved by all and returned that love unconditionally. She will be deeply missed but we all can take comfort in knowing that she is reunited with her husband and family.
A visitation will be held at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home at 300 Saint Mary’s Street in Raleigh on Monday, December 12th from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any remembrances be made to favorite charities in her memory.
