Reverend Lonnie Lee Cook

Lonnie was born in Cincinnati Ohio to the late Lon Cook and Bertha Holcomb Cook. Lonnie married Carolyn Ruth Jones on April 1, 1952. Together they had 5 children.

In 1959, Lonnie graduated from Wofford College in Spartanburg SC. Most of his career he was in sales. Later in his life, Lonnie received his Masters of Divinity and graduated from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC . Lonnie and Carolyn devoted their later years to serving others in under served areas. Lonnie retired from the NC Department of Corrections after serving as the Chaplin for 21 years. He and Carolyn returned to Raleigh NC for their final years.

Lonnie is survived by his four children. Lon Cook, Jeanne Cook Layton (David), Kyle Cook, Daniel Cook (Donna). Four grandchildren, Jeremy Layton (Rhonda), Caleb Cook (Stephanie), Jonathan Layton and Dylan Cook(Dayna). Five great grandchildren, Alynna Layton, Cole Layton, Braeden Cook, Sarah Cook, Devyn Cook.

A celebration of life will be held for Lonnie and Carolyn on June 26th at Open Door Baptist Church 9801 Durant Rd, Raleigh, NC at 2:00.
