Lois Ellington Smith

Lois Smith, age 104, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2013. She was born Lois Ellington on February 4, 1909 in Chapel Hill, NC to Lois Petty and Walter Alvin (Doc) Ellington. Her sister Veva was 9 years older. Their mother died when Lois was 9. She also had five half siblings, Cope, Cammie, Effie, Clink, and Henry. Lois was married to her husband Frank Houston for 71 years. Lois is survived by two sons, Houston Smith and his wife Gaille and David Smith; four grandchildren, Ed Smith, Kimberly Smith, Christina Smith, and Jenny Rensler and her husband Matthew, and three great grandchildren, Brittany, Travis, and Tyler.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, February 9, at the Chapel of Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary’s Street, Raleigh, with visitation prior to the service from 1:00-2:00pm. Interment will be held at Montlawn Memorial Park.
