Kyle Thomas Rohweder age, 25, passed away surrounded by his family on June 12, 2022 after an almost 3 year battle with pleomorphic liposarcoma. Born on November 2, 1996 at Rex Hospital, he was the cherished and beautiful son of Thomas and Elizabeth Cook Rohweder, brother of Austin Rohweder.
Kyle attended Lacy Elementary, Martin Middle School and graduated in 2015 from Broughton High School. He was a founding member of the Meredith Townes Mudpuppy Swim Team and also swam for Broughton High school. Kyle had a smart, loving and eclectic group of friends that he loved very much, and they participated in a lot of different activities. Kyle went on to attend Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia and graduated in 2019 with a major in Exercise Science and a minor in Public Health. Kyle loved to work out and took superb care of his body. He had a passion for health and fitness, and it showed. Kyle became Kappa Alpha in his junior year at Roanoke college and made many lifelong friendships. Kyle served as purser for his KA chapter and loved his brothers and all it stood for.
Kyle was diagnosed with cancer two months after his college graduation, so he was not able to secure a job prior to that time. Kyle enjoyed his time with friends as he had to deal with many rounds of radiation, 2 major life saving surgeries and many, many cycles of chemo. Kyle was our “Superman” and our hero, he was courageous, strong and resilient in every way possible. We gained our strength from Kyle as we were fighting this evil cancer with him.
Kyle was an avid gamer which intensified during his time with cancer since there were limits to what he could do during Covid. He was revered as a staple in North America eSports CSGO (Counter Strike) community, he was a competitive teammate and coach.
We would like to thank his compassionate team of doctors at UNC Chapel Hill: Dr Jacob Stein, Dr Julie Childers & Catherine Swift and Dr Junko Grilley-Olson now at Duke Health. We would like to thank his wonderful Physical therapist and friend, Stephen Cavitt.
He is lovingly remembered by his parents: Tom and Liz Rohweder; by his brother: Austin; by his girlfriend: Abigail Peters; Grandmother: Trudy Rohweder, Aunt and Uncle: Martina Rohweder Brooks (Paul), Aunt: Jackie Cook Marshburn, Aunt: Trish Cook Britt, Cousin: Abbie Britt, Cousin: Paulie Brooks, Cousin: Eric Marshburn (Meredith), Cousin: Laura Marshburn, and Second Cousins: Luke and Kate Marshburn,
Kyle was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Robert “Bob” Cook and Evelyn Cook and paternal grandparent: Hans Rohweder.
Kyle was very passionate about his KA chapter at Roanoke College and decided prior to his death that he wanted to establish a scholarship fund in his name. He wanted to be able to assist a KA brother with a scholarship each year. The Kyle T Rohweder, ’19 Endowed Scholarship fund will be awarded to a student who is a member of Kappa Alpha and embodies the qualities most admired in Kyle: strength, courage, persistence, discipline and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Kyle’s scholarship fund or you may continue to donate to his CaringBridge as all funds will help with the KA Endowed Scholarship and funeral costs. (hyperlinks to both may be found by scrolling down under DONATIONS)
A Time to Celebrate Kyle's Life and Share Memories was held on Saturday, June 18th beginning at 4 pm in the Chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home. The family received friends following. Wearing bright, casual clothing would be appreciated. The service was live streamed and recorded for those unable to attend and a hyperlink to the video can be found underneath DONATIONS as well.
