Jordan Leven Allen, Jr.. 94, of Kyle Dr. in Raleigh, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family at home on October 9, 2022.
Born on October 30, 1927 to Jordan Leven Allen, Sr and Ruby Bunn Allen in Franklin County, NC, the family later moved to Raleigh where Jordan spent 85 of his 94 years. He attended Millbrook Elementary and Millbrook High School as well as Hardbarger Business School. Jordan proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II.
Jordan was married to Mildred Lane Claybrook on October 7, 1950, and she has remained the love of his life for seventy-two years. They raised three daughters and have been active members of New Hope Baptist Church for their entire marriage. Jordan served on and chaired the deacon board numerous times, taught Bible study, managed the youth touring choir for a time, and was very active in lay ministry.
In addition to his church work, Jordan also participated for many years and held leadership positions in the Sir Walter Raleigh Lions Club, Jaycees, and was a member of the American Legion.
Jordan worked in mortgage banking for most of his business career and owned Jordan Allen Company, in addition to ten years of employment at Occidental Life Insurance Company.
Jordan was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Betty Lou Carter Winters and Judy Braxton, and his oldest daughter, Carol Renee Allen. He is survived by his wife, Millie; daughters Kim Hinton (Thomas) and Sherry Oakley (Floyd); seven grandchildren: Christopher Smith (Tasia) Mark Smith (Dorian), Aaron Hinton (Downey), Abby Hinton, Matthew Oakley (Elizabeth), Jordan Oakley (Ashley), Olivia Moore (Kaleb); and ten great grandchildren: Kirin Smith, Gabrielle Smith, Savannah Smith, Luke Hinton, James Hinton, Rheece Hinton, Kallie Moore, Kullen Moore, Elijah Oakley, Jordan Oakley, Jr. He is also survived by his dear lifelong friend Luke Allen, 96, who has been like a brother. Jordan was a loving, caring husband, father, grandfather, and friend who lived his faith before all and with the highest integrity.
Services to celebrate the life of Jordan L. Allen, Jr. will be held at New Hope Baptist Church in Raleigh on Friday, October 14th at 2:00 pm. Visitation will be prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 pm in the church parlor. Memorial contributions can be made to New Hope Baptist Church to honor Jordan’s life of love and service.
