Joan was born to Johanna and John Panek, on January 27, 1946, in Paterson, New Jersey. After marrying the love of her life, Gregory Tullo, they moved to Vermont to enjoy the great outdoors, build the family home themselves, and raise their daughter, Stephanie, and later bring their son, Nicholas, into their lives.
She spent time as a Licensed Practical Nurse and clerk for the Legislature of the State of Vermont before finally settling in Raleigh, North Carolina where she focused on family and volunteered for 16 years at the North Carolina Museum of Art. With a smile that lightened hearts, she was one that never took a beautiful day for granted and would mindfully ‘snow-globe’ moments to enjoy later. A true lover of life, she enjoyed nature and took pride in her home, her birds and garden, and dearly loved her cat Max. She established memorable family traditions that will continue with the family.
She passed in her home on a sunny fall day, surrounded by the love of her family and lifelong friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with her as she returns safely to the Lord. Joan is survived by her husband Greg, daughter, Stephanie (Brodie) Cook, son, Nicholas (Kristen) Tullo, and cherished granddaughter, Cora Jane.
A life so beautifully lived deserves to be lovingly remembered. She will be deeply missed by family and friends.
To honor her life’s memory, a funeral mass will be held at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church in Raleigh, NC on Friday, November 10th, 2023, at 11:00am.
A visitation for Joan will be held Thursday, November 9, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 East Millbrook Road, Raleigh, NC 27609.
In lieu of flowers, Joan would be honored if you would donate to the Sylvan Heights Bird Park, a local bird sanctuary that she loved to visit Donate to Sylvan Heights (https://www.shwpark.com/support/donate/make-a-donation/)
