Jeanne Houston Harris

Jeanne Houston Harris, age 95, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2022 in Chapel Hill, N.C. Jeanne was born on February 14, 1927 in San Antonio, Texas, the second of three daughters of Col. and Mrs. Oscar Parke Houston. She attended the University of Texas at Austin, and in 1946, married Lt. Robert Joseph Harris, USAAF, of Elizabeth, New Jersey. They made their home in Washington DC, in Fairfax, Virginia, and later in Potomac, Maryland. Mr. and Mrs. Harris raised eight children in Fairfax and Potomac. Mr. Harris died in 1985 in Kodiak, Alaska.

Jeanne is survived by all of her eight children; Marianne Howell-Wright of Chapel Hill N.C., Robert J. Harris, Jr. of Washington DC, William P. Harris of Annapolis, Maryland, Nancy Jansen of Stevensville, Maryland, Clare Coleman of Old Saybrook, Ct., Beth Lane of Durham, N.C., Tricia Ambrose of South Riding, Virginia, and Megan Hildyard of Hermosa Beach, Ca.

In addition, Jeanne is survived by her 18 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She had many old friends made over the years in Fairfax and Potomac as well as new friends made during her later years in Bethesda, Maryland and Ashburn, Virginia.

A memorial service will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church at 9200 Kentsdale Dr. in Potomac, Maryland on Wednesday, July 20 at 10:00 am. A private interment will follow at St. Gabriel’s Cemetery in Potomac Falls, Md. A reception will be held at 1:00 pm for friends and family at the home of Robert Harris at 3200 Scott Place, NW, Washington DC.
