Jeanette Smith Letterman

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 from 3:30 pm until 5:00 pm at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 Saint Mary's St. Raleigh, NC. A memorial service to celebrate her life will follow the visitation at 5pm in the funeral home chapel.

Jeanette was a lifelong North Carolina resident who attended both NC State and UNC Chapel Hill. She was the daughter of the late John W. Smith and Elizabeth O’Daniel Smith of Raleigh.

She is survived by her husband Henry, whom she first met as a freshman at NC State; her stepson, Clark Letterman; her brother Joel Smith of Charleston SC; life-long friend Mary Ann Turner; and many wonderful friends and family members.

Jeanette loved gardening and was constantly reading and learning about new things. Her friends and family were blessed by her sharp memory and command of every subject, long before the advent of Google. Even after she stopped working as a CPA, she was an excellent resource for tax advice for everyone she knew. In December of 2016 Jeanette, along with family and friends, went on a trip of a lifetime to Thailand for her son Clark and his wife Hannah’s marriage. In Thailand, she enjoyed riding an elephant, an abundance of delicious food and the diversity and respectfulness of a gentle caring people.

Henry and the family wish to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Duke University Hospital for their devoted care of Jeanette throughout her long battle with cancer, and especially our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Brant Inman. In the last days of her life Jeanette received excellent care from Transitions LifeCare.
