Jane was born in Cabarrus County, NC on April 21, 1952 and was the only child of the late Robert Jacob Munday and Edith Whitley Munday. Jane grew up in Cabarrus County, attending Northwest Cabarrus High School, graduating in 1970.
After high school, Jane attended NC State University, graduating in 1974 with her degree in Math Education. In 1972, while in college she married Bennett Keith Overcash. In 1975 Jane, Keith and their first child moved back to Cabarrus County. In 1978, she began a decorated 19 year career as a high school math teacher with Cabarrus County Schools. While teaching at NCHS, Jane attended UNC- Charlotte at night, earning a Master of Arts in Education in 1981. Jane loved her years teaching at NCHS and made many friends there, especially in the Math Department.
Jane and Keith moved back to Raleigh in 1997, where she taught 1 additional year at Sanderson High School before taking a position as a specialist with the Department of Public Instruction. She spent 9 years at DPI before retiring in 2008.
Jane was an avid gardener and spent countless hours in her yard in Concord and Raleigh. She also enjoyed attending NC State football games and spending time with her granddaughters before she became too sick to enjoy them. She was excited to be called Nana and dearly loved her grandchildren.
Jane is survived by her husband of 49 years, Bennett Keith Overcash; her sons, Kevin Robert Overcash and his wife, Elizabeth of Apex, NC, and Brad Nathan Overcash of Boone, NC; and her granddaughters, Norah Overcash and Meredith Overcash.
A service of love will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, August 30, 2021 at Millbrook United Methodist Church, 1712 E. Millbrook Rd. Raleigh, NC 27609; to be immediately followed by a time of visitation in the Pryor Bradford Building at Millbrook UMC. On Tuesday, August 31, 2021 from 1:00pm – 2:00pm the family will receive friends at the Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church in the Memorial Hall, 301 Mt. Olivet Rd. Concord, NC 28025. The burial will immediately follow at Carolina Memorial Park, 601 Mt. Olivet Rd. Kannapolis, NC 28083.
Flowers are welcomed by the family, but a memorial contribution may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to Millbrook United Methodist Church.
