James W. Snead Jr. died Tuesday night at Hillcrest Raleigh at Crabtree Valley. He was 81. Born in Harnett County, January 1st, 1937, he was the son of the late James W. Snead and Louise Hudson Snead. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for 2 years and then enlisted in the Air Force, serving his country for 6 years. He later attended Gaston Technical College, receiving a degree in electronics. He married Linda Carol Hux on December 29th, 1963.
A member of Benson Memorial Methodist Church in Raleigh for many years, he often served as a Sunday school teacher. His passions were writing poetry and singing, mainly gospel. He preferred to be called Jim by all who befriended him, and he was a loyal and genuine soul. He was deeply loved and will be forever missed.
Surviving family include his wife Carol Hux Snead of Raleigh; two sons, James W. Snead III, Brandon Glenn Snead, both of Raleigh; one daughter Tracy Carol Snead Battaglino and her husband Michael Battaglino; one brother Hinton Thomas Snead and his wife Mary Snead of Seven Lakes; 4 grandchildren, Aiden Handzel, Matthew Battaglino, Nicole Battaglino, and Christopher Battaglino; a sister-in-law Cathy Hux of Williamston; a brother in law James Hux of Hamilton; one niece Lisa Snead Guy of Asheboro; and two nephews, Bryan Snead of York, PA, and Kevin Snead of Ohio.
