Mrs. Cook was born November 14, 1929 in Archdale, NC to the late Grace O’Neil Davis and Walter Isaac Brunson. While attending Meredith College, she met her late husband Earl at Wesley Foundation at Fairmont Methodist Church. She was an elementary teacher at Cary Elementary before having and raising her three children. She eventually returned to teaching as the Director and kindergarten teacher at Forest Hills Baptist Church.
Helen and Earl were active members of Fairmont United Methodist Church, before becoming active with Highland United Methodist Church in the early 1980s. She was involved with several clubs in Raleigh, including the Petal Pusher Garden Club, Loose Threads Quilt Bee, the Raleigh Quilt Guild and Highland Women’s Circle 8. She loved quilting, gardening, and reading. Helen also enjoyed volunteering at Rex Hospital.
Helen is survived by her children Richard Earl Cook, Kathryn Cook Reed and her husband Fred, grandson David Richard Reed, her sister-in-law Linda Gwaltney along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, and husband of 58 years, Helen was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth Brunson Cook.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 20, 2022 at 1:30 pm at Highland United Methodist Church, 1901 Ridge Road, Raleigh, NC. Mrs. Cook was buried during a private service in Raleigh Memorial Park.
