He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Sarah Mangum Daniel in 2014. Harry’s passing closes an amazing journey that he and Sarah started in rural Granville County, through Campbell College, NC State University, and then on to an impressive list of State government positions in Raleigh. After he retired from NC State University, his organizational and problem-solving skills led him into State level politics where he provided advance work for political candidates and elected officials as well. Harry retired for the second time from public service as Deputy Commissioner of Agriculture with the North Carolina Department of Agriculture. He was a member of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, a charter member of the NC State University Club, and a member of several economic and policy boards.
This world will be a little less kind and less generous without Harry. His skill set and compassion affected many people from the tobacco fields of his youth to his colleagues across the State.
A private, family service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery in Oxford, NC. There will be a Celebration of Life gathering at the home in Raleigh at a future date. Details to follow.
