He is preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Peggy Alphin Swinson, Viola Winstead, Norma Ray Summerlin and Sallie Ruth Greenwood and one brother, Don Alphin.
He is survived by the love of his life, Virginia Glenn Price Alphin, who kept him straight for 58 wonderful years. Their two sons, Fred Alphin, III and his wife Christy and their children, Madison, Fred IV, and Caroline; and Ashley Brock Alphin and his wife DeAnn, Alexandra, Emma Grace and Brock. He is also survived by brothers, Reevis (Barbara), Oliver Wendell (Eva), Jack (Linda Carol); and sister, Linda Alphin Smith and numerous nieces and nephews.
Fred Alphin was a graduate of Kenansville High School in 1954, graduated UNC-Chapel Hill in 1959 and NC Central Law School in 1986. Fred also served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1962. He was in the banking industry for many years and then an attorney for 19 years at NC Farm Bureau Federation until retirement. Fred had many interests, he loved woodworking, the Angus Barn, watching westerns and cowboy movies at the NC State McKimmon Center. He was a master gardener and often found in his backyard with his beloved Chinese Pugs Snoopy and Smokey. He enjoyed having Friday lunch with his buddies at Chick-fil-A. He had a lifelong love of history and museums including the North Carolina History museum, Smithsonian and the North Carolina Zoo where he enjoyed taking his grandchildren.
Fred was also proud of being appointed to the Board of Directors of North Carolina Advanced Energy Corporation by Governors Easley and McCrory. He was an active member of Highland United Methodist Church where he served on numerous committees and was an usher for many years. Of all things Fred loved, he loved his family the most and the precious time spent together.
A memorial service will be held Monday, February 22 at 11:00 am at Highland United Methodist Church and can also be attended by live streaming in accordance with Covid regulations. A graveside service will be held at the Alphin Family Farm in Mt. Olive, North Carolina following the service at 3:00pm.
