Esperanza Ordonez, known as Espi or Pepi by her family and friends, passed away unexpectedly on January 26th. She was a medical doctor, trained at Boston University Medical School in a program that she entered straight out of high school. Espi was extremely motivated and knew early on that she would enter the medical profession. She excelled in school, winning honors at every stage. She spent over 20 years working as an emergency room physician at Wake Hospital and Duke Raleigh Hospital before opening a private clinic in 2002 where she was the primary care doctor.
Outside of her passion for medicine, she filled her life with her love of gardening and creating a beautiful home that she shared with her beloved dogs. Multi-talented and fearless, she tackled whatever needed to be done. She traveled with friends and family for vacations and had a love for the ocean.
Espi leaves behind four siblings: Sonia, Rafael, Eugena and Lourdes, her cousin and best friend Cecilia and nephews William, Alexander, Gabriel and Nicholas and nieces Christina and Gina. All her family has throughout the United States and in Ecuador, where she was born, have expressed great sadness at her passing because she had unique bonds with each one of them. She will be greatly missed by all whose life she touched.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, 7209 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh, on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.MitchellatRMP.com
