Edward Kent Dunn Jr., loving husband, father, granddaddy and uncle passed away with his wife and daughter by his side on Friday, November 25, 2022. Ed was born in Rocky Mount, NC on July 19, 1941 to the late Edward Kent Dunn and Annie Bell. Ed attended Rocky Mount Senior High School where he played basketball and tennis. After high school, Ed attended and graduated from East Carolina College (now University) with a bachelor of science degree in Mathematics. Ed first worked as a math teacher at Sanford Senior High School in Sanford, North Carolina and then went on to teach math at Central Carolina Community College.
After teaching for several years, he moved into the area of construction and planning with LP Cox Construction and later Eskridge and Long Construction, located in Sanford, NC. In 1977, Ed came to Raleigh to work with Davidson and Jones Construction. Over time, Ed developed a love for commercial real estate and eventually founded Dunn Sargeant Associates.
An offshoot to his business was his involvement and appreciation for economic development in North Carolina. He served on the North Carolina Economic Development Board, an advisory group formed under the North Carolina Department of Commerce.While living in Sanford he was active in the Kiwanis Club and served a term as president of the Sanford chapter. Ed loved golfing, hunting, fishing and trips to the North Carolina coast and mountains. While in Raleigh Ed and Faye were members at Hayes Barton Baptist and Bayleaf Baptist.
Ed is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Faye Raynor Dunn, his daughter Anne D. Morris (John), his grandchild Em Gordon, his sister Joann Bynum and sister-in-law Sophie P. Dunn. He is also survived by niece Jennifer D. Maier (Greg), and nephews George V. Dunn (Christin) and Neil Bynum. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward Kent and Annie, his brother, Wayne Dunn, his brother-in-law Merrill Bynum and his nephew Michael Bynum.
The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice for the care and attention given to Ed and his special caregivers Alice, Margaret, Pauline and Esther for their outstanding care while he was at home.
There will be a visitation on Monday, December 5th from 10:00am - 10:45am at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Road. A memorial service will be held immediately after the visitation in the chapel at Brown Wynne starting at 11:00am.
