Edith was born on June 10, 1926 in Apex, NC to the late Elma Goodwin Wilkins and Willie Walker Wilkins. She grew up in Angier, NC and was an active member of Angier Baptist Church. She was involved in Sunday School, GA’s, and Bible School. Living in a small town, church was her way of life. She was a long-time member of Ridge Road Baptist Church in Raleigh. Edith worked with the youth as a Sunday School teacher, worked in Bible School, nursery and served on many committees with the church. She was a member of the first women’s Sunday School class (the Mary Martha Sunday School class) and later the JOY and Fidelis classes. She also served as a deacon.
Edith was preceded in death by 3 brothers; Lt. Col. Arthur L. Wilkins of Fayetteville, Jack Wilkins of Lake Tahoe, Nevada and Ralph Wilkins of Angier and sisters Edna Jones of Pinetops and Erma Harvell of Raleigh, and sister-in-law Jeanne Wilkins. She is survived by her daughter Brenda Morris and husband, Keith of Elon; grandsons Daniel and wife Jill and great-granddaughter Landry Kate of Marvin, NC and Dustin Morris of Burlington, NC; sister-in-law Grace Wilkins; and many nieces and nephews.
Edith graduated from Angier High School and Hardbargers Business College. Her first job was with North Carolina State University with the School of Textiles. She then worked with the Cooperative Extension Service and the Dean’s Office of the School of Humanities with North Carolina State University. Edith was a big Wolfpack basketball fan and had season tickets to the games. Later she became an avid Duke basketball fan and loved Duke basketball and Coach K. She walked for exercise on the NCSU campus for years and later when she retired she loved to walk at Crabtree Mall and was a member of the Walker’s Club. Edith loved to read and was an excellent cook - especially desserts. Her faith was strong and her church played a big part in her life.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 28th at 2:00 pm at Ridge Road Baptist Church, 2011 Ridge Rd, Raleigh, with the funeral to follow at 3:00 pm. Burial will be at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh, following the service. A celebration of life will be at a later date at the Oaks of Alamance.
