Dennis Roy Houchin

Dennis native to Griffith, Indiana, was born to John and Mary Houchin.

Dennis was a Vietnam Veteran serving in the 4th Infantry and earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal. Dennis retired early from IBM with over 20 years of service building a great career. He was then a business owner for many years before enjoying full retirement.

In retirement Dennis found many ways to enjoy his hobbies of genealogy and learning about history. He enjoyed researching family lines and visited many churches and cemeteries searching for clues. He also spent many years volunteering at Duke Homestead and Bennett Place leading tours and answering guest questions. Dennis shared his love of sports with his family and many friends and faithfully cheered for Duke, Notre Dame, the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears.

Dennis is preceded in death by his oldest son, Brian Houchin and his parents John and Mary Houchin.

Dennis is survived by his beloved wife, Laura Braxton Houchin; son, Keith (Amanda) Houchin; daughter, Alison Houchin; granddaughter, Emma Houchin; brothers Dale, John and Michael; sister, Mary Ellen; many nieces, nephews and friends.

The family will receive friends from 4pm to 7pm on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at Brown Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Rd. Raleigh, NC 27609. A funeral mass will be held at 1 pm, on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at Saint Francis of Assisi Church, 11401 Leesville Rd Raleigh, NC 27613.
