David Leland Johnson, 60, died unexpectedly on February 14, 2011 at his home. Born on May 28, 1950 in Raleigh; he was the son of the late Carmelo and Jessie Mae Johnson. He served in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam.
David graduated from Sanderson High School and attended Wake Community College. He was employed at Meredith, maintaining the stables and finally as a groundskeeper. He was an avid photographer and volunteered at the Durham VA Hospital for many years until he no longer could, due to his own medical issues.
He is survived by his brother, Richard G. Johnson, of Leland, NC and by numerous aunts, uncles, other family and friends.
Family will receive friends on Sunday, February 20, 2011 from 2-3 PM at Mitchell Funeral Home, with services to be held at 3 PM. Interment will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park.
