Dr. Daniel Peter Rabe was born on December 19, 1948 in Portland, Oregon to parents Hugo and Lena Rabe. He was the third of four children. He grew up in Salem, Oregon and spent his high school and college summers working at the Seven-Up Bottling plant that his parents owned in Salem. He graduated from the Oregon Health & Science University School of Dentistry in Portland, Oregon in 1976 and took his first job as a family dentist at a small private practice in Salem. There he met the love of his life, Cheryl Wiens, who worked as a dental assistant in the same office. They married in 1978 and raised three children together, Austin (41), Erica (37), and Ryan (33). Daniel was dedicated to his profession and considered his work to be a calling more than a job. He had many loyal patients and prided himself on providing excellent dental care. He retired in 2012 and later moved to Raleigh, North Carolina in 2018 to be closer to his children and grandchildren. He went home to be with the Lord on February 28, 2021.
He enjoyed camping, cycling, and taking trips to the Oregon Coast with his family. He had a subtle sense of humor that his closest friends and family appreciated, and he was known by all for his patience and kindness.
He is survived by his sister Marlene, brother James, brother Thomas, wife Cheryl, three children, and five grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, his family has requested that donations be made in his honor to the Durham Rescue Mission (https://durhamrescuemission.org/).
