Cynthia Ruth Fowler, 67, wife of Terry Dene Fowler, died peacefully at Raleigh Rehab, with her loving husband by her side, holding her hand. She was a loving wife and mother and will be greatly missed.
Cindy was born November 11, 1955, in Fayetteville, NC to the late Vance and Ann Herndon. She attended public school at Southern Pines, and began her studies in Karate at Southeastern Community College in Whiteville NC.
She met her husband Terry while working at Pizza Hut in Whiteville. After leaving Pizza Hut she embarked on a career as a DJ at a radio station called WTXY in Whiteville. The family then moved to Raleigh, NC where she worked at AdStreet Media in the traffic department. Her training at Karate International began around 1986, she then began teaching at Karate International in 2005 instructing all ages and ranks excelling at teaching pre-school class for 3 to 5 year olds, and by November 4th, 2016 she achieved 6th Degree Black Belt Master Instructor. She was the 2nd woman to achieve 6th Degree Black Belt in the entire Karate International organization.
Cindy was very active within the Wake County community, preparing programs and reading them on air for the blind for North Carolina Reading Service, Cindy also volunteered her time with RTOOT {Really Terrible Orchestra of the Triangle}, and Raleigh Concert Band as a trumpet player, She started learning trumpet around age 49 with a goal of learning the instrument by age 50, Cindy went to Edinburgh, Scotland with RTOOT, she was also a student of art and photography, her other passion was riding her Harley Davidson.
In addition to her husband of 45 years, Cindy is survived by her son, Jerry.
Cindy was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Donald Herndon, and her sister Susan Herndon
A funeral service was on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 in the Chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh. Entombment followed in the Mausoleum at Raleigh Memorial Park.
