Carl worked at GPU, formerly Jersey Central Power and Light, for over 38 years. In the Air Force he was Crew Chief on a B52 Bomber stationed at Loring AFB in Maine during the cold war.
After retiring to NC, Carl became involved with many organizations and clubs. He was a member of Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, Cary, NC, and volunteered to maintain the church’s landscaping equipment. He belonged to the Men’s Bible study group, and the Men’s Breakfast group at the church.
In his community he belonged to the Veterans, Woodworkers, Target Shooting, wine and book clubs. He was a member of the R.O.M.E.O. club (Retired Old Men Eating Out). He enjoyed riding his antique motorcycle, and volunteered to help many neighbors repair or build things, which earned him the title “Mr. Fix-It”. An avid hiker and gardener, Carl had many friends who shared his varied interests.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years: Stephanie Modolo-Burrell; children: Allison Burrell of Washington DC, and Cristen Burrell of AZ, stepsons: Michael Fiorenza and his wife Andrea of TX, and Christopher Fiorenza and his wife Sarah of VA, and three grandchildren, Damian, Daniel and Hannah.
A Memorial Service Celebrating Carl’s Life will be held at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church in Cary, NC on Friday, March 18th at 11 am, with a Light Reception following. Committal Services will be held that same afternoon at 2 pm at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church Columbarium in Raleigh, concluded by Military Honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Carl may be made to Habitat for Humanity or a Veteran Services Organization of your choice.
