Tommy, Scotty and I got together tonight and enjoyed some drinks while telling stories and remembering our favorite Brian memories.  We miss you a lot Bri and your spirit lives on in all of us who knew you.

There isn't a MDP grade school memory that doesn't involve the McConnell Family. Brian was an amazing coach, dad and more importantly friend. May your family be comforted knowing that you are no longer suffering. And may they be enveloped by all the wonderful memories he has left in this world.

I'm so sorry to hear about the passing of Brian.  He was such a wonderful guy, always upbeat and positive whenever I saw him.  I am sure his couragous battle with cancer was not easy on anyone.   Please know you have been and will remain in our thoughts and prayers. We met Brian and Jill at an open house at Mother of Divine Providence Parish in King of Prussia when Ethan and our Brianna were starting Nursery School.  We became fast friends and the McConnell family quickly became an important part of our life.  When my wife, Kristin suffered a rare disease on her knee, she required four surgeries and much physical therapy to recover. Brian was always there and willing to watch our kids whenever Kristin needed him. That was a huge because our families lived 1,000 miles away. Brian and Kristin would often switch out the kids in those early years so that one of them could volunteer at the school.  We have always held a special place in our hearts for the McConnell family, remembering those early years of starting our family and sharing special moments with them.  We continue to keep all of you in our hearts and prayers.  Brian is a hero and a role model for all of us. With our love,

Brian gave us a warm and cordial greeting the moment we moved into our townhome last September. His love for his family, dog, sports and holidays was immediately apparent. There  was no sign that he had been struggling with cancer for 2 years. It's quite clear that Brian looked at the glass half full and enjoyed life with his family and friends the best he could during his last months. We are grateful for our short friendship with Brian and will miss him deeply.

Only the fondest of memories arise in memory of Brian. Having been the family babysitter for many years, I was witness to the love and adoration he had for his family, and theirs for him. I was always inspired by him. With his fun, easy going character, his generosity & kindness, his active involvement in everything with Ethan & Parker, his relationships with others in the community and of course, with Jill, I always thought to myself I'd be lucky to find a husband and father of my children who was even half of what Brian was for  them. It was always a pleasure and highlight to be a small part of their family and to know Brian. I am forever grateful for the example he led as another positive father figure in my life.

As you can tell from the shared memories, Brian made a lot friends doing something he loved; playing tennis with a relentless energy and enthusiasm. I also met Brian for the first time on the courts and remember him as this ‘whirl-wind’ on the tennis courts, tracking down every impossible shot and I was thinking “what the heck, how did he just get that??”.  He would just smile and give you that look of “is that all you’ve got?” We will greatly miss that smile, the jokes and his competitive spirit. May you Rest In Peace Brian. Until we play again...

I can't tell you how sorry I am. I lived in the same neighborhood & met Brian playing tennis through Tom Petrecione & Brian Calabria(old neighbors) several years ago. When I first met him he didn't say a word & I'm thinking to myself "does this guy like me"? The more times we played I got to know him and what a sweetheart of a guy with his strong Pittsburgh accent. Loved talking junk to him about his teams & he'd give it right back. He was such an easy going guy & loved teaming up with him playing doubles because he would track down every single ball. He always gave 10000% & is a true warrior. 
He  adored nothing more than his wife, kids including Doc and of course those Yankees & Steelers & Tarheels.  He will truly be missed.

I met Parker as his 8th grade English teacher. He was a new student and quiet, but confident, comfortable with himself, brilliant, and generous. He remains a student I remember very clearly for his insights and humor, even years later. Without a doubt, Parker and his brother have been blessed with loving, selfless parents, and I know the loss of their father is one they'll feel for the rest of their lives. Upon first meeting Brian in the back alley of our neighborhood, I knew we were going to be friends for life.  The immediate bond that he, Tommy and I made was just as strong the first day we met, as it is today.  We were constantly hanging out in the driveway, playing tennis, shooting hoops and or coming together to tackle any and all home improvement projects, either of us had (regardless if we knew what we were doing or not).  Our wives always encouraged us to call a “professional”, but there was nothing us three couldn’t figure out.

I never took for granted our friendship and was always amazed at your positive outlook on life, despite the obstacles set before you.
Your contagious smile, commitment to family and strong faith are just a few of the qualities I admired in you.

We love you Bri and will never forget the lasting impact you had in our lives.  I miss you a lot but am trying to find comfort in knowing that one day, I’ll see you again.

I met Brian about three years ago through his neighbors Tom Petrucionne and Brian Calabria. I got to know Brian mostly on the Bedford tennis courts, the four of us playing doubles. None of us were too good at tennis but we had expertise at teasing each other and laughing hard and often. It was always entertaining playing against Brian and Tom. They would razz each other hard and witty, neither were defensive no matter how seemingly harsh a barb might be. They both would absorb the tease and take it to the next level, poking more fun at themselves and each other. Although I do not recall the content of any of the court-side teasing, what I will always remember (and feel) is the friendship, brotherhood and love expressed in each little jab given and received. Brian knew how to dish it for sure but most importantly he knew how to take it. He knew how to laugh at himself and not take himself too seriously. 

Even after Brian was diagnosed and receiving chemo on a regular basis, he made it out to the courts, bag and all. My deepest memory of Brian was the last time the four of us played together a few months ago. He definitely had less energy and stamina and had more difficulty catching his breath. But he was out there. BRIAN WAS OUT THERE... playing... teasing... laughing... loving. 

Brian will always be a trooper and a warrior in my mind and heart. There is a line at the end of a Jason Isbell song called River that makes me think of Brian every time I hear it, “...and running ‘til you’re nothing sounds a lot like being free.” 

I know Brian is resting peacefully now. 

Jill, Ethan and Parker, we are so sorry for your loss.  We were blessed to have Parker and Thomas as friends and cherish the times we spent in Bible studies and "Why Catholic", sharing our faith and friendship.  Brian was an incredible man and inspirational in his friendly, outgoing way!  You'll remain in our prayers!

We will always remember Brian as a fellow marauder at BGHS, but our most blessed memory of Brian is as Coach Brian.  We were so fortunate to have Brian and Parker join our soccer team many years ago.  Brian was able to not only help the team improve and learn the game but more importantly he was such a good role model for the boys.  He understood that coaching was an opportunity to mentor these young men, build their character, and build their self-esteem and mostly he understood and appreciated the opportunity to spend more time with Parker.  Family was always part of our conversations and many occasions he expressed how proud he was of Parker and Ethan.  

We are so very grateful for the time we got to know Brian as a devoted father and loving husband.

On December 27, 1997 our family was blessed with our first son in law,Brian,  when he became husband to our daughter,Jill.
He was an amazing husband who lovingly followed his wife wherever
her job took her making it an adventure for the entire family as he became the tour guide for all who visited.  He was also a terrific Dad to our first two grandsons, Ethan and Parker. He was a great role model as a Dad teaching his sons many sports and was always involved with their school activities and sports
It was his full time job in his heart
He loved us and treated 
us with respect and we loved him
We will miss him but know God has healed him and took him home.

I knew Mr McConnell as Ethan’s dad. I saw him as a calm, thoughtful, and kind man, just as I see those traits in Ethan, my best friend. I remember one time when I slept over at Ethan’s house when we were younger, Mr McConnell made us scrambled eggs and bacon in a bagel for breakfast. I had never had that before but it tasted amazing and become one of my favorite breakfast meals from then on. It probably was not a significant memory to Mr McConnell, but it’s one that I will never forget and exemplifies his caring nature and kindness of heart. He was a good man and an exceptional father, with two brilliant sons to show for it.

We wish to extend our heartfelt condolences to Jill and family. Brian will truly be missed. He graduated with our Kevin(Brian’s cousin) Bishop Guilfoyle HS . He was a wonderful man who loved family and friends. Gone much too young. We’ll see him again some day.  We send our love to all.
