Betsy Modlin Snyder passed from this earth on November 11, 2019. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Luna Modlin, and her siblings, Virginia Garrison and Henry Modlin. Her former husband, Franklin A. Snyder, with whom she remained close, passed earlier this year in March.
She is survived by her (3) children - Celia Flowers and her husband, Gary, of Raleigh, NC; Franklin A. Snyder, Jr. and his wife, Melanie, of Midlothian, VA; and her daughter Louise Snyder, of Flat Rock, NC. She has (2) grandchildren - Kendall Snyder, of Virginia Beach, VA, and Franklin Snyder, III, of Denver, CO.
Mom was born in Kinston, NC, and grew up in Goldsboro, NC, where she had a close circle of friends. She received a 4-year degree from Women’s College in Greensboro, NC, now known as UNC-G. She was a teacher in Pensacola, FL, when she met and eventually married Franklin A. Snyder, a pilot in the Marine Corps. They moved to Greensboro, NC, where they raised their children.
Mom was a gentle soul who was fiercely devoted to her family. She was completely comfortable being a homemaker while other women were increasingly entering the workforce. She loved cooking and entertaining and was immensely popular with her friends in Greensboro. While Dad was undoubtedly the love of her life, Mom had a secret crush on Clint Eastwood, and a soft spot in her heart for Sheriff Andy Taylor, whom she knew personally - really! And, of course, she loved hearing anything by Elvis Presley - even gospel music. Her twinkling blue eyes and calming demeanor will be sorely missed, but never forgotten. Soar with the Angels, Mom - until we meet again!
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 20th, at 11:00 am, in
the auditorium of Springmoor Retirement Community, 1500 Sawmill Rd. Raleigh, NC 27615.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Meals On Wheels, 1001 Blair Dr. Raleigh, NC 27603.
