Betsy was born in Cheraw, S.C. on December 9, 1927 to the late Franklin Turner and Helen Brackett Waddill.
She was a graduate of Cheraw High School and Charlotte Memorial Hospital (Carolinas Medical Center) School of Nursing. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Charlotte Memorial Hospital and at The Nalle Clinic in Charlotte, N.C for over a decade. She did volunteer work at St. Peter’s Soup Kitchen, The American Red Cross Blood Mobile and as an instructor in Home Nursing for the Red Cross. Betsy was active in Town & Country Estates Garden Club in Charlotte.
In 1950, Betsy married Milton M. (Mac) Copley and they lived in Charlotte, N.C. for 44 years before moving to Little River, S.C. in 1994, and then to Raleigh, N.C. in 2000.
She was a member of Sharon United Methodist Church in Charlotte, N.C.
Betsy is survived by her daughters: Sue Copley and fiancé, Dylan Lusk, of Raleigh, NC and Kelly Copley Wiseman and her husband, Geoffrey, of El Paso, Texas. She is also survived by her older sister Helen Waddill Comer of West Columbia, S.C. and many nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate the life of Betsy will be held on Monday, January 20, 2014 at 1pm at Raleigh Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Hospice of Wake County or to the Carolinas Nursing Endowment at the Carolina College of Health Sciences in Charlotte, NC.
