Bessie Aycock Tunstall Powell went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at age 82. She was in her home, surrounded by her children as she was received into her new heavenly home.
Bessie was one of six daughters born to the late Gabriel and Myrtie Aycock on November 22, 1934 in Kenly, North Carolina. She loved talking about times on the farm with her sisters; Deana Mozingo, Ruby Coker, Lou Holland, and the late Elsie Baker, Hazel Massengill, and Lorena Taylor. She was a wonderful wife to the late Linwood H. Tunstall for 42 years and the late Bill L. Powell for 8 years. She is survived by her children, Debbie Tunstall Gray and husband, Jerry, and Becky Tunstall Hall and husband, Terry; her grandchildren Erik Gray and wife, Lauren, Kevin Gray and wife, Krystle, Emily Kincaid and husband, Storm, Becca Tyrell and husband, Travis, Nate Gray, Maylynn Avery and husband, Nate; Her great-grandchildren Jaiden Oey, Ethan Hall, Norah Gray and Noah Gray; Her stepchildren, Lawrence Powell and wife, Roberta, Caroline Powell, Linda Powell Fitts; Step-Grandchildren David Powell and wife Brandy, Nathan Powell, Brooks Fitts, and Andrew Fitts.
Bessie had a heart of love and compassion for all. Anyone who knew her, whether a casual meeting or in a lifetime relationship, sensed her love for God and her caring spirit. Her faith and her gratefulness to God for all He had done for her never wavered, not even during her days of illness. She was an inspiration to all whose lives she touched. She will forever be in our hearts as an example of a woman of God!
We will be celebrating her life on Thursday, August 24, 2017. We will be at Montlawn Memorial Park (2911 South Wilmington Street, Raleigh) at 1:00pm for a graveside service. We would like to invite everyone to join us at Radiant Church (7000 Destiny Drive, Raleigh) for visitation with the family 2:00-3:00pm with a celebration service immediately following.
In Lieu of flowers we request donations be made to Radiant Church (7000 Destiny Drive, Raleigh, NC 27604) where she was a member for many years. She had the heart of a giver and always wanted to see the work there continue.
