Anne Perry McCann Chaney died November 10 in Raleigh, NC. Born March 2, 1931, she was the daughter of Virginius Boddie Perry and Eugenia MacRae Perry of Littleton, NC. She had one brother, Lt. Virginius Boddie Perry Jr. A Marine pilot, he was killed in World War II in the Pacific Theater of Operation and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.
Raised in Raleigh, she later attended Salem Academy, Peace College and NC State University. She was married first to the late Jack Vernon Stephenson, second to the late Glenn Crocker McCann and third to the late David Webb Chaney.
She worked in administrative positions for the State of North Carolina for a number of years before retiring to pursue her lifelong love of music. She learned to play the violin and joined the NC State University Symphony.
She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, where she became involved with Wake Relief food pantry and served as chairman for several years. She was a member of the NC Museum of Art, serving as a docent and chair of the Volunteer Board. She also was a member of the NC State University Woman’s Club, the Readers Book Club, and the Sir Walter Chapter of Colonial Dames Seventeenth Century.
She loved spending time at Sunset Beach, NC, with her late husband David Chaney and her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed swimming in the ocean well into her seventies.
She is survived by her children John Boddie Stephenson and his wife Suzanne, Betsy Stephenson Newton and her husband Jeff, John Edward McCann, stepson Steve Chaney and his wife Suzanne and grandchildren Justin Stephenson, Ashley Newton Brancato, Hunter Newton Aulebach, Evan McCann, Sean McCann, and Marc Chaney.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Cypress of Raleigh Rosewood Health Center for their devoted care for the past eight years.
A memorial service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church 120 E. Edenton St., Raleigh, on Tuesday, Nov. 16, at 2 pm.
