It is with deep sorrow and broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, King Fong Wong (Chow) of West Roxbury, MA. King Fong, age 92, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2025 with family by her side. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 74 years, Loy Wong. She is survived by her loving children: Linda and her husband Ken (CA), Shirley, Julie and her husband Michael (Westford), Jack and his wife, Lisa (Southborough). King Fong will forever be remembered and cherished by her grandchildren, Cindy and her husband Steve, Christine, Laura, Kevin, Brian and his wife Jessica, and Katherine.
King Fong was born in Hoi Ping, Canton, China, to the late Chow Sai Chuck (father) and Woo Suey Sam (mother). She was the youngest and the last surviving child of her parents’ seven children. King Fong was an outgoing and carefree youth who enjoyed a variety of sports, particularly ping pong and badminton. Her favorite school subjects were mathematics and music.
King Fong and her children emigrated from Hong Kong to England to be reunite with her husband. Finally, the whole family immigrated to the United States in 1970. While in England, King Fong worked tirelessly alongside her husband Loy at their Central Café restaurant in Liverpool. In the United States, King Fong worked long hours as a seamstress. The work was stressful, and the conditions were harsh but she persevered for the love of her family.
In her retirement, King Fong was an active member of the Boston Wong Family Benevolent Women’s Club. She organized and participated in a variety of social events and cultural activities, such as Tai Chi and English learning programs, cooking and serving meals to the elderly.
King Fong had many other interests, including mahjong, singing, cooking and gardening. Her steamed tapioca dumplings, Har Gow and her dong were legendary and appreciated by her family and friends. She loved gardening and devoted much time cultivating many types of Chinese vegetables and flowers. Her fuzzy melons, jasmine and Aglaia odorata plants were admired by many. King Fong loved to travel and enjoyed wonderful trips with family and friends to many beautiful locales in the U.S. Europe and Asia.
King Fong lived a long, blissful and eventful life. She formed many strong and enduring friendships. The memories of King Fong’s warmth and kindness will be in the hearts of her family and in the many lives she touched. We will miss our mother dearly and happy knowing she is now reunited with our father in eternal peace.
Relative and friends are respectfully invited to celebrate King Fong’s life at a memorial service at Deware Funeral Home, 576 Hancock Street, Quincy on February 24, 2025. Visiting hours are 09:30 am -12:00 pm, followed by a procession and interment at Forest Hills Cemetery.
