Kay Smith

Our angel, Virginia “Kay” Smith, 63 of McKenna passed away on August 5, 2013 unexpectedly; she was born in Unionville, Missouri on December 29, 1949, to Leo and Ruby Crouse. She graduated Sumner High school in 1967 and soon become a mother to her son Tony who she loved deeply. Kay got married to Jeff Dickins in 1969 and then moved to Canada and lived there for 15 years. In 1984 Kay and her son Tony moved back to Washington to restart their lives. Kay worked at Good Sam for many years before she went to work for the bank. In 1996 she met her love and husband Greg Smith. Together they shared many dreams, watched their grandchildren go up and traveled to Mexico. They could always be found working in their yard as Kay loved her flowers. Last year Kay was diagnosed with lung cancer and never gave up. She never complained, maintaining a brave and cheerful outlook. She beat lung cancer and lived her life enjoying her family and friends. She was always everyone’s cheerleader. The family was held together by her determination and dedication to keeping everyone updated as she would hand write every year at Christmas a calendar for the family with everyone’s birthdays and anniversaries. Kay’s smile and laugh can still be seen and heard in our hearts and memories. Kay is survived by her husband of 17 years Greg Smith, her son Tony Dickins (wife Kim and their daughter Jessica), her step son Roger Smith (his son Spencer), stepdaughter Dori (her daughter Alex), step son Jacob, stepdaughter Lyndee, sisters Phyllis Ship, Sheryl Mattingly and Silvia Madsen, her brother Robert Crouse and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and her lifelong friends Marion of 56 years, Jane of 50 years and numerous others as the list would go on. Kay’s life will be remembered with a service at Powers Funeral Home, 320 W. Pioneer Ave in Puyallup. on Tuesday August 13, 2013 at 1 pm and a Celebration potluck of her life at her son’s Tony’s house immediately following.
